The name Lo Romero came from the Rosemary (Romero) plant that grows natively on the land along with Aleppo Pines, Carob trees, and natural scrub bushes growing alongside Palm trees. Designed by Jorge Gallen and Enric Soler, the par 72, 18-hole golf course is suitable for all types of golfers. The course measures 6,628 yards (yellow) with wide fairways and a fair layout. Bunkers are strategically placed and interspersed among the 8 lakes and a burbling brook making the course challenging and fun. Its technical difficulty is rated at 3 out of 5 or moderate.
Situated in the municipality of Pilar de la Horadada, a town in the province of Alicante, Spain, this beautiful golf course lies in a natural basin which was formerly an old pear and apple orchard. It lies in close proximity to the Costa Blanca coastline and Costa Calida beaches. The area also enjoys the status of being recognized as having the healthiest climate in Europe. It has around 300 days of sunshine in a year with an average annual mean temperature of 18C.
Among golfers, Lo Romero is often referred to as “Golf Island”. This is because the 18th hole of the course resembles the signature Hole 17 of TPC Sawgrass. An intimidating island green surrounded by water. It's a perfect ending to a round of golf as it often messes a player's standing. You will either love this hole or hate it. But it always makes for a fun conversation at the clubhouse at the end of the game.
The clubhouse is not your traditional set-up but a simple log cabin-type facility with limited space. But they serve delicious tapas dishes at the open terrace restaurant. A pro shop is available with inviting merchandise. The practice facility is accessible by foot or buggy. It has a driving range, approach area, chipping, putting green, and practice bunkers. Rentals are also available for clubs, buggy, and electric trolleys. Golf lessons are on hand for those seeking instructions. And a changing room with lockers is conveniently accessible.
There is no membership at Lo Romero. Players are welcome to make a booking anytime at the club. The club is also accessible to junior players where they can avail themselves of affordable green fees.
New project development is also in the works to create a golf community at Lo Romero. This gated golf and leisure resort has plans for around 1,200 luxury golf houses consisting of apartments and golf villas designed with a garden, pool, and rooftop solarium. Built within the popular 18 hole golf course and surrounded by mature pine trees that inhabit the parkland. The site is located in an elevated position about 10km away from the beaches. Many of the golf homes offer fantastic scenery of both the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor seas. This place is ideally suited for retirees and over 55's. But it is also an attractive investment opportunity as an alternative asset. As the golf properties in Lo Romero are proving to be popular and sought after because of their location.
