While the Little Club of Gulf Stream is considered small for a community, the residents of this golf neighborhood have one of the highest average incomes of homeowners of any city in the entire United States. The median price for a detached golf home in Gulf Stream is approximately $1.2 million, putting buyers in an exclusive market.

Gulf Stream is surrounded by nearby attractions such as the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Boca Ballet, and Town Center at Boca Raton. West Palm Beach also has the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and Palm Beach County offers some of the best tennis and equestrian facilities in the nation, like Delray Beach and its outstanding tennis facilities and tournaments.

Given the community's fortunate location in the southern portion of Palm Beach County, between Delray Beach and Boynton Beach, many residents have their own boats and spend much of their time relaxing on the water. Other water-based activities residents can enjoy include scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing.

Gulf Stream, a town in Palm Beach County, was founded in 1925 by Bessemer Properties as a planned golf community beside Golf Stream Golf Club, which was itself established in 1924. The Town and the golf club took their name from the Florida Coast's Gulf Stream current.
Over the decades, the Town of Gulf Stream continued to grow while still adhering to the original Phipps vision of providing a place where residents and visitors can enjoy understated, yet elegant living. The old “cottages” of post-World War II were replaced by larger golf estate homes that showed the changing tastes and lifestyles of the area's golf home residents.
Today, the Gulf Stream Golf Club neighborhood has approximately 1,000 residents with a median age of 58. The community has approximately 525 golf housing units, the majority of which were designed by renowned Palm Beach architects, including Maurice Fatio, John Volk, and Howard Major. Several of the community's original golf homes still exist and have not changed their appearance from the 1920s.
